Graphing Our Favorite Milk

On Friday we each chose our favorite kind of milk to drink. Students sampled milk and then together, we graphed our results. It was AWESOME to hear some of the observations made by the students. "White milk has the least votes." "I see that chocolate milk was the favorite." "There are two more friends who like chocolate milk than strawberry milk." Teachable and memorable learning moments!

How great are these kids?! I am so blessed to call them my students!

Our First iPad Project

I am SO excited to announce that our first project using the iPads was a success! The kids were put into groups and created their own farm cartoons. They designed the background, made the characters, and then added dialogue. For our first attempt, it was PERFECT! The ap is called "Toontastic" if you want to download it at home. Your child can practice oral language, express their creativity, and even make up math problems all using this app! I also learned about new styluses that I hope we can get this year.  They are made by Dano and are called "App Crayons." They are the perfect size and shape for our Kinders and would be great to have in the room!

Our Friend Roy G Biv

Last week we learned all about colors. How to mix colors, sort colors, and of course, the colors of the rainbow. To help us remember the order of the colors in the rainbow, we met a new friend named Roy G. Biv. He is a really "bright" and "colorful" friend who has great character! Here is a picture of our craft we made!

Introducing the iPads!

Today we discussed how to properly use our iPads in class. The kids helped me come up with our rules on how to treat and use them. We then had some time to explore some of the apps on the iPads! Needless to say, we had a great time learning today!

Number Recognition

Today we practiced recognizing our numbers by playing a Pete the Cat game. Students rolled dice and counted the pips and then searched for the corresponding number on their game board! Math sure can be fun!!

                learning is fun in Kinder!

a student counted four pips and is now coloring number four

Pete the Cat!

We introduced the story of Pete the Cat last week, and if you haven't been hearing it sung around your house then watch this video with your child and have them tell you about it. They love it!! It is very catchy and not only introduced us to colors, but continued to build upon our foundations of character education.

Number Writing

Today's focus was learning about numbers 1 and 2!  We learned poems for each of these numbers and also represented theae numbers with cubes on various problens. We practiced writing 1 and 2 with a pencil and also practiced writing using our gel bags! The kids had a lot of fun and thought the gel bags were, "pretty cool!"

"number one is like a stick; a straight line down will do the trick!"

"half a heart will never do; slide to the right to make a two!"

Chicka chicka Boom Boom we are learning the alphabet in our room

We have been talking about our names and learning the alphabet this week. We have been reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and have made trees with our names on them, and today we matched upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet using stickers. The kids are really enjoying this book!

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Mrs. Auburg and I are THRILLED to have your child in our class this year; we have so many fun things to learn and do. We hope to use this blog as a means of communicating to you what we are doing in the classroom. Pictures of work and activities we have completed, pictures of our kiddos during the day, and student projects will all be posted on this site. Students will learn Internet safety and how to post completed projects on this site throughout the year. We can't wait to share some of our first posts :)
